You are invited to the Main Library on Friday, April 12, for a FREE showing of the epic classic GONE WITH THE WIND. The movie will run from 1:00 to 5:30, with an intermission. This is the second film in our One Book, One Michiana Civil War-Era Movie Series.
- Gone With the Wind will be 74 years old in December.
- It was the first color film to win the Best Picture Oscar.
- When Gary Cooper turned down the role of Rhett Butler, he was passionately against it. He is quoted saying both, “Gone with the Wind is going to be the biggest flop in Hollywood history,” and, “I’m just glad it’ll be Clark Gable who’s falling on his face and not Gary Cooper.”
- The horse that Thomas Mitchell (Gerald O’Hara) rode was later Silver of The Lone Ranger fame.
