Discover a New Hobby


What does it take to tie a fly?
Decorate a cake? Create a card?

Explore your inner hobbyist this summer at Elkhart Public Library. During June and July guest hobbyists will visit the Main Library to demonstrate their hobbies, and discuss the tools and supplies involved.

Two different presentations will run simultaneously, with two back-to-back sessions each, to make it possible to attend both. Presentation dates are June 12, June 26, July 10 & July 24. No registration is required.

Beading/Jewelry-making AND Beekeeping

Beading & Jewelry-making
May Bean will share beading and jewelry-making tips. May has made  hundreds of items in her many years as a jewelry maker, and will explain how you can get started making your own unique pieces. May looks forward to sharing her experience and expertise.

EPL employee Henry Harris, has been a beekeeper for more than 35 years.  He is an active member of the Michiana Beekeepers Association and long-time editor of their monthly publication The BeeLine.  Henry will demonstrate what is involved in beekeeping and discuss the importance of bees to our ecosystem.

Basket Weaving AND Unique Scarf Design

Basket Weaving
Gloria Taylor is another Elkhart Public Library employee with a special skill. Gloria has been a basket weaver for more than 20 years, and would love to share her expertise in weaving baskets of many shapes and sizes.

Unique Scarf Design
Franklin Stoll is an Elkhart legend. He has been sharing his creativity with the Elkhart community for many, many years. His decorative scarf creations have become the latest fashion trend around EPL.

Paranormal Investigations AND Creating Greeting Cards

Paranormal Investigations
George “Maverick” Hayes is the regional director of the Indiana Ghost Trackers North Central region. He has been an inspiration for his chapter winning “Rookie of the year” director and a number of other awards. He is a great investigator and an avid photographer. He is coming to us from LaPorte Indiana. He will be bringing all types of equipment used in his investigations and show you how to start your own investigations into the paranormal realm.

Creating Greeting Cards
Judy Ferrell, a long time library employee, will show off her expertise in card making. Judy will discuss the tools and supplies needed to make unique cards. If you are curious about what is involved in creating your own cards, here is your chance to learn more.

Fly Tying/Fishing AND Cake Decorating

Fly Tying & Fishing
Learn the basics of tying flies with Joe Quarandillo, who has been a fly fisherman for many years. He will explain what supplies you will need to begin to tie flies and give you an opportunity to try tying one yourself.

Cake Decorating
Tina Meerzo is relatively new to Elkhart Public Library, but an old hand at decorating cakes. She has been doing it for 30 years. Tina looks forward to sharing her tips for professional-looking designs and letting you in on some tricks of the trade.
