FrankenFun: One Book, One Michiana

Mary Shelley’s FRANKENSTEIN  is this year’s selection for One Book, One Michiana, a month-long, community-wide series of discussions centered on a single title, which is selected by the St. Joseph County Public Library.

The Elkhart Public Library has a lively, electrifying line-up of activities and events.

Is it Really Possible to Create a Frankenstein Monster?
Join us at the Main Library on Wednesday, April 2 at 6:30 pm, when we will welcome Elkhart County Coroner Dr. John White, who will tell us whether or not an actual Frankenstein monster is possible. He will also fill us in on what he does all day, which generally does not include re-animating corpses.

Van de Graaff Generator Demonstration
Come see electrifying experiments conducted by Library staff.  You could even say they are hair-raising! Bring the family, enjoy, be amazed, and maybe even assist. See the Van de Graff generator at these times and locations:

Make Your Own Monster
Assemble your own monster. We provide the body parts. Monsters may be displayed so the public can vote on their favorites. Children under 13 must be actively supervised by an adult. The monster lab will be at the Main Library all month, and the “traveling” lab will be at each branch for a week.

Fun Family Movie (several locations)
Bring the family, have some popcorn and enjoy! Featuring the voices of Winona Ryder, Catherine O’Hara & Martin Short, this film is about young Victor, who conducts a science experiment to bring his beloved dog Sparky back to life, only to face unintended, sometimes monstrous, consequences. Rated PG

Put on your best Monster face and join us for a spine tingling good time, with monsterific stories and games, and a Tesla machine! I dare you to sign up.

Exquisite Corpse

In a tribute to the classic Frankenstein monster, we will create unique monsters of our own. Exquisite Corpse is a fun way to work as a team and draw your own creepy monster.

Super Readers Book Club: FRANNY K. STEIN

Join in the fun and read FRANTASTIC VOYAGE one of the books in the FRANNY K. STEIN: MAD SCIENTIST series.  During the sessions, readers are encouraged to read aloud. Frankenstein Make-It-Take-It Craft
Monday, April  7 – Friday, April 11 • All day • All ages
Stop by the Pierre Moran Branch Library to create your very own monster! Only this time it will be out of toilet paper rolls, construction paper, and googly eyes. This craft lasts the entire week so stop by when it is convenient.

Family Movie Night
Friday, April 25 • 4:00 pm • All ages
Bring the family, have some popcorn and enjoy an animated film. Directed by Tim Burton;  this movie features the voices of Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, and Emily Watson. When a shy groom practices his wedding vows in the inadvertent presence of a deceased young woman, she rises from the grave assuming he has married her. Rated PG.
