The Library and a local group called STEM with SASS are partnering to host 3 Hour of Code workshops during the global Hour of Code movement. They will be held on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday the week of December 5 at 5:00 pm.

The Hour of Code is a global movement inviting people everywhere to a one-hour introduction to coding and computer science. Coding and computer science are a huge part of our world today, yet less than half of schools teach coding to their students. Hour of Code hopes to introduce kids to coding to show that anyone can do it. Not only is it a great 21st century skill, it also teaches logic, math, and problem solving.

The workshops at the Library are open to kids in grades 2-6. No background knowledge or experience is required! Learn more about Hour of Code here and then go to the Library’s website or call us to sign up!

There are limited spaces available, so please register for one of the dates by calling the Elkhart Public Library Children’s Room at 574-522-2223 or online at

Osolo Branch Library • 3429 E. Bristol Street • Elkhart

Come aboard and join local author Peggy Reiff Miller as she talks about the Seagoing Cowboys, volunteers who transported livestock across the ocean to people who were suffering the effects of World War II. Their mission was called the Heifer Project (now Heifer International). THE SEAGOING COWBOY, a children’s picture book written by Miller and illustrated by Claire Ewart, is the story of these volunteers.
