Riverside Club 120th Anniversary Event: A Tree Grows in Brooklyn

April 19 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Free

The Riverside Club of Elkhart celebrates its 120th year with a special event April 19 at Elkhart Public Library’s downtown location. This special gathering will feature a talk about “A Tree Grows in Brooklyn” by Betty Smith and a discussion of the issues the classic covers.

The public is invited to listen to the discussion, and those RSVPing for the event will be provided with a copy of the book, provided by The Friends of Elkhart Public Library.

Riverside began in 1902 as an invitation-only group to “encourage moral and mental development, give training to the proper extension of thought, and to extend the true principles of living and helping each other,” according to the club’s written history. A discussion leader picks the title and gives a review of the work, and club members discuss relevant themes and consider the historical and cultural challenges with fresh perspective.
