Notary

Free notary services are available during open hours Monday to Friday at the downtown library only. Appointments are preferred but walk-ins may be accepted based on staff availability.

To make an appointment, call the reference desk at 574-522-5669. Walk-ins are welcome to check availability at the second-floor reference desk.

Documents that have already been signed cannot be notarized. All documents must be signed when the notary indicates during the appointment.

Please note the following requirements for EPL’s notary service:

• No electronic signatures will be accepted and all documents must not be signed ahead of time
• We do not notarize immigration or real estate transactions
• Any signature witness needed must be provided by the person making the appointment
• Valid photo ID is required – state-issued driver’s license or ID, passport, military ID, or identification card issued by a federally recognized indigenous tribe
• Name(s) on photo IDs must match name(s) on the document
• This service is in-person only and all people signing the document must be present
• Documents to be notarized must have all pages, completed, and not just the page to be signed

Library notaries are not attorneys licensed to practice law in Indiana, allowed to draft legal records, give advice on legal matters or charge a fee for those activities.
