Helen M. Free, honored by the Physicians's Desk Reference for developing products that put Miles in the forefront of diagnostic medicine, joined the company in 1944 as a quality control chemist and served in increasingly responsible positions until retirement in 1982. She still works as a professional relations consultant to the company.
