| Picture Caption | Helen Maude (Brown) Beardsley (10/8/1873- 10/27/1958), wife of Andrew Hubble Beardsley. She was the first woman member of the Elkhart school board, serving from 1919 to 1923 and member of the board of directors of the YWCA. She was one of the organizers of the Elkhart League of Women Voters, and served as the first state president of the Indiana League; Helen bought the building on 311 W. High St., Elkhart, IN and deeded it to the Elkhart League of Women Voters. She was a member of an all-women jury in Elkhart county, August 1920. Scanned from metal plate. |
