A tinsmith shapes a cup the old-fashioned way based on a design found at Fort Ouiatenon near modern-day West Lafayette. The fort, built in 1717, was the first fortified European settlement in what is now Indiana. Work continues on the demolition of the former Elkhart High School on Franklin Street. Crews hope to salvage the stone sign and columns, city officials said. The former school, replaced decades ago by the district, was annexed to the newer county courts building, which also will be demolished after the county completed construction of the Elkhart County Courthouse at U.S. 33 and Reliance Road in Goshen.
