Elkhart Public Library

Branch renovations

We have plans to improve our neighborhood locations to meet strategic goals

Elkhart residents told us what they wanted to see in our four neighborhood branches. The ideas became part of our current strategic plan, and informed the decisions we made in planning a $4.5 million project.

From today through 2022-23, branches will be the scene of big changes leading to friendly spaces for studying, collaborating, and sharing. Collections will be easier to browse, and programs will be easier to attend.

Check back often for project updates, including closing dates and alternate services.

Please note, some items in the EPL collection assigned to specific branches may be unavailable for checkout during construction.

Dunlap (currently closed)

Dunlap branch is closed, and construction is expected to last into fall 2021, as delays in receiving needed materials at the construction site have impacted the timeline.

A drop box is accessible at the Dunlap entrance for people to pull off C.R. 13 and return materials. Returns also are welcome at other library locations.

Pierre Moran, 2400 Benham Ave., behind the Kroger store, is the closest location for Dunlap guests to visit during closing. Computers, fax and copying services, and more are available at this full-service branch.

Cleveland (currently closed)

Cleveland branch is closed. The project does not include any addition to the existing building, but interior spaces will be updated.

A return box is available at the service (eastern) driveway for materials coming back to the library

Guests are encouraged to visit EPL’s other northside Elkhart branch, Osolo, located at 3429 E. Bristol St.

Work is not expected to commence in these locations until later in 2021. Guests may see some changes in the run-up to closing, though, as staff will be reducing the size of some collections to make packing and storing easier.
