What makes you curious? It’s time for you to tell us.

In 2021, nearly 2,000 people in the Elkhart community responded for the first Curiosity Index. The study was designed by Elkhart Public Library and EnFocus Inc. to capture ideas about what people in the area want to learn.

This year’s survey has been shortened and will be available at MyEPL.org/curiosity, directly to cardholders via email, through community events, and in mailings to randomly generated addresses.

Please complete this 6-minute survey by Dec. 15. For helping us out, eight curious people responding will be drawn at random to receive $25 Visa gift cards!

Generally, residents find a fair amount of joy in developing new skills and knowledge. They seek out information, and aren’t afraid to explore. This fits with Elkhart’s long-standing entrepreneurial spirit that made us a leader in the pharmaceutical, musical instrument, and recreational vehicle industries.

On the other side, only about half of the respondents indicated they take risks and go outside their comfort zone. Their overall interests are wide and varied.

EPL’s Curiosity Index will be a three-year campaign to collect and analyze data. The library intends to use the findings to improve services and programs. Residents asked us to do even more to foster the joy of learning when we were writing our current strategic plan.
